An original design by Aydın Gürer has won the poster contest for Istanbul's title of European Capital of Culture in 2010. The executive committee of Istanbul's bid for the title of European Cultural Capital in 2010 asked 64 graphic designers the question "What kind of an Istanbul poster would you design?" and the EU Council chose the winner from among the 24 applicants. The winning design features Turkish coffee and Turkish delight, and the coffee grounds, a popular manner of fortune telling in Turkey, form an Istanbul silhouette. The design also bears the slogan "Within three days, weeks or months... You'll take a trip… More magical than you've ever experienced before. Such a different distant realm... Where variety lives in harmony... and the footprints of innumerable civilizations and cultures have passed before." |
